Dive In

Welcome to our Summer/Online edition of the Toilet Tech Talk. We hope that you have had a relaxing summer. As we starting looking toward the new year, we would like to share with you a tool for free Professional Development that is easy to use and doesn't take up a bunch of time. That tool is Twitter.

Take the Plunge

Now, I know, don't tune me out just yet. Bear with me and give it a try. If you don't have a Twitter account, head on over to Twitter and click and fill in the required information under "New to Twitter? Join Today!" and follow the steps to create an account.

Spare a Square

So now it is time to get involved with some educational chats on twitter. Joining these chats is a great way to meet new people to add to your Personal Learning Network (PLN, kind of like a global PLC group). An educational chat takes place at a designated time and typically there is one topic that will be discussed that night. There are a variety of ed chats on many different topics. These chats use a hashtag or number sign so you can easily search for all tweets that belong to that chat. Cybrary Man keeps a list of all the ed chats that are active. Go by there to see if there is one that might interest you.

Cleaning Up
There is a brand new chat that is starting up for Teacher who are new to Twitter. #tweet4edu. The first day for this chat will be July 21, 2011 at 8 pm central time.

To help you learn how to use this powerful tool, CR will be at the Rolla Panera July 21 at around 7:30 to help you get your twitter account set up and then show you how to use @ and # to follow the #tweet4edu chat. Our very own little tweet4edu tweetup!

So if you are having trouble wrapping your head around Twitter and how to use it for professional development grab your wifi device and swing by Panera for a little one on one tutoring and then participate in the very first #tweet4edu chat.
